Fibres of the toquilla straw hats from Montecristi, Manabí, also known as Panama hats, are made from the fibres of the toquilla palm. The process begins with harvesting the palm leaves and stripping them into thin, flexible strands.
These strands are then boiled to soften them and are woven into intricate patterns. Skilled artisans use a variety of techniques to create different styles and densities of the hat. The woven straw is shaped into a hat form, often using molds. After shaping, the hat is dried and sometimes treated with natural oils for durability. The final product is a lightweight, reathable hat valued for its quality and craftsmanship.

My name is Lina Pabon Hall, Founder and Director of PABON HALL Business. I was part of the commercial mission 2023 to Ecuador. I had the opportunity to talk with entrepreneurs and small business owners, where I could see their frustration and disappointment.
Having worked hard to prepare their products for export, unfortunately, they did not receive any help in launching their products overseas.
That is the reason I decided to open my company to help small and medium-sized enterprises in Ecuador. We have only been operating for a year, and we are extending our services into Colombia.
